Riverview Park Elementary Wins MP Fin Donnelly's 5th Annual Litterless Lunch Challenge

A Coquitlam school has come out on top by winning local MP Fin Donnelly’s fifth annual Litterless Lunch Challenge.

Sandy Bellet’s kindergarten class from Riverview Park Elementary was the winning class, going 93% litter-free during Waste Reduction Week (October 20-24, 2014).

“Mrs. Bellet’s kindergarten class worked hard to meet the challenge of going waste-free and should be very proud,” said Donnelly. “In fact, the commitment shown from all the students who participated in this year's Challenge is an inspiration,”

This year, over 500 students participated in the litterless lunch challenge.

Donnelly rose in Parliament on October 29th to announce the winning class from Riverview Park Elementary and to congratulate all participating students, parents and teachers.

“Reducing waste is an important component of sustainable living – affecting land, water and air quality,” said Donnelly. “With the average elementary school producing over 20,000 pounds of lunch waste per year, measures like the Litterless Lunch Challenge help make students aware of their impact on the environment and how they can make a positive difference.”

Donnelly will provide a litter-free lunch to the winning class on November 14th, 2014. The media are welcome to join.
