Mr. Speaker, the government got a couple of things wrong in its response to my bill, so I am happy to correct the record and give members something to think about before the vote.

Budget 2016 Response
I am honoured to share with the House my riding's concerns and hopes in response to the federal budget. The people of Port Moody, Coquitlam, Anmore, and Belcarra are excited to be free from over a decade of Conservative rule. For too long our country has turned its back on science, seniors, youth, the environment and climate change, and working families.

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise in the House to address today’s NDP motion calling on the government to formally recognize the existence of a standalone covenant of moral, social, legal, and fiduciary obligation, between the Canadian people and the Government of Canada to provide equitable financial compensation and support services to past and active members of the armed forces who have been injured, disabled or have died as a result of military service, and to their dependents.

Speech: English Bay Oil Spill Response
Mr. Speaker, the toxic bunker fuel spill which occurred in the Vancouver Harbour on April 8, 2015 provided a vivid and terrible example of why we need immediate action to restore coast guard services in British Columbia. The federal government must reverse Conservative cuts to marine safety, oil spill response, and environmental clean-up capacity in Vancouver and on the West Coast

Speech on Gutting of Environmental and Fisheries Regulations
Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of the NDP opposition day motion.
One-third of the budget implementation act is dedicated to gutting environmental laws that protect Canada's fisheries, rivers, oceans and ecosystems. With the stroke of a pen the government would eliminate decades of progress and condemn future generations to deal with its mess. The biggest theme I drew from the budget is the government's focus on mega-industrial projects at the expense of Canada's environment.

Speech on Bill C-6 - Canada Post Lock-out
Mr. Speaker, I rise today in solidarity with the thousands of postals workers who have been locked out by Canada Post. There are three postal depots in my riding, one in New Westminster, one in Coquitlam and another in Port Moody. I would like to thank all of the workers in those depots. I have talked to many of them and know their good work. I know how hard they have been working and how much this affects them and what it means to them.

Speech on Budget 2011
Mr. Speaker, last week, the government released the 2011-12 budget and, once again, it falls short for Canadians. The government continues to give away billions of dollars to the most profitable corporations while moving ahead with $11 billion worth of cuts from programs and services that Canadians rely on.

Speech on West Coast Oil Supertanker Ban
Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak in support of the motion to ban the transportation of oil by supertankers off British Columbia's north coast. We must take action now to protect British Columbia's magnificent coastline and coastal waters, its diversity of fish species, abundance of mammals and the coastal communities that depend on a healthy fishing industry and profitable ecotourism sector. On March 26 of this year, I introduced Bill C-502, a private member's bill that would amend the Canada Shipping Act to prohibit the transportation of oil in supertankers in the Dixon Entrance, Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound.//

Speech on the Harmonized Sales Tax
I rise today to speak against the HST. However, before I do, let me take a moment to say it is an honour for me to stand in the House of Commons, representing the communities of New Westminster, Coquitlam and Port Moody. I am humbled by the trust and faith that voters have recently placed in me. I am committed to building a sustainable community that is socially just, inclusive and economically vibrant. This is why I am so strongly opposed to the harmonized sales tax.
