Fin in the House: Speaking against the Liberals shutting down debate on the Fisheries Act

Mr. Fin Donnelly (Port Moody—Coquitlam, NDP): Mr. Speaker, in listening to the official opposition and the government, I do not know which is worse in terms of what we are talking about in delaying this. We have the government side pointing to the official opposition members saying that they are, but we have been waiting almost three years for this legislation to come forward. We have many Canadians who want to hear and give input on this important bill, but to now ram it through, and with time allocation to close that off, it is just not appropriate.

It is unfortunate that we have had to wait this long. We welcome the legislation, we welcome the changes, we want to see them and get to that point, but, again, we need to have a good process. This is not the way to do it. I hope the minister takes that into account for future changes in restoring environmental protections in this country.
