OTTAWA – Canadians have been waiting for a budget from Ottawa that is focused on their priorities and the needs of the middle class – not just the wealthiest few. After a decade of deficits and mismanagement, Canada’s middle class families are working harder but falling further behind.

"This last Conservative budget splurges billions of dollars on Canada's wealthiest citizens and does almost nothing for hard-working middle-class families that are struggling with record debt loads," said NDP MP Peter Julian (Burnaby-New Westminster).

“Instead of measures to help more Canadians get ahead, Conservatives are taking Canada in the wrong direction and playing politics ahead of the election,” added NDP MP Kennedy Stewart (Burnaby).

The budget’s transit and infrastructure proposals are limited and create red tape that prevents funds from getting into the hands of municipalities. The Conservative’s proposal also falls short of the NDP’s promise of permanent, stable and predictable transit funding.

“The only good ideas in this budget are taken from NDP proposals,” said NDP MP Fin Donnelly (New Westminster – Coquitlam).  “British Columbians know they can count on the NDP to stand up for them to help improve their lives.”

Tom Mulcair and the NDP are fighting for small business, families and to grow the economy while protecting our environment. New Democrats will stand up for Canadian families because Canada’s economy isn’t strong without a strong and growing middle class.
